The Power of Suggestion

I have this dream where I enter my office and find a big red telephone on my desk. When I lift the receiver, it connects automatically to English Standard Version HQ, and a rather posh-sounding English voice asks, "What next, Mr. Bertrand?" Whatever I say next -- goatskin wide-margin, for example -- arrives in stores the following week.

This morning the dream came true, but in the perverse, ironic way that some people think God works ("Don't say you'd never be a missionary to Africa or God will make you one!") -- I'm still not sure what to think. After a tip from the ESV webmaster, I checked the new ESV Blog and found an announcement about upcoming "glow in the dark" editions, complete with a trackback to my earlier tongue-in-cheek post on the subject, filed in the "be careful what you wish for" department!

The funny thing is, I like the look of the one pictured here. If that red phone really were in my office, I would ask someone in the ESV shop to send me an advance copy to take on the road with me to Worldview Academy this summer. Imagine the happy campers sitting in utter darkness with nothing visible but the glow of the Bible, singing, "This little light of mine...." You think I'm joking, but I'm not. A glow-in-the-dark ESV would be cool.

On top of this radioactive news, I'm also informed that new premium leather editions of the ESV are on their way for fall, too, so there will be something for everyone.
