It's strange to think that as you're writing, someone else is keeping tabs on you and updating the public. But today that's exactly what happened. Laurie has been writing about writing -- specifically my writing -- in a post titled "He's At It Again." Now that I've finished my story and come up for air, I see that the blogosphere as been looking over my shoulder all along, thanks to my wife.

The story, titled "The Inside Job," ended up going for 21 pages, a total of 6,600 words. In addition to being the first short story I've written in 2005, it is also (a) the first I wrote on my new 12" Powerbook, proving that the smaller sceen does not inhibit creativity, and (b) the first story I've written using Apple's new software Pages. I've now set up a standard manuscript template, so all I have to do is fire up the software and select "Manuscript" and start writing.

Anyway, I've posted the first paragraph of "The Inside Job" on my Fiction page, along with a bunch of others, for the morbidly curious.
